Right, firstly, Mr. Dave Johnson, it seems to me that you have either got the wrong retaurant, or else you are part of that crowd making sure Streatham doesn't keep fine institutions like Chilli Chutney. It isn't the Ivy, but it doesn't pretend to be. But then again, it's far better than any other restaurant in the area, and does Indo-Pakistani food extremely well, with great originality. The staff insist on you having a good time, and the food itself is worth coming for, try the stuffed Chilli, for example, or else the mozang chicken which was actually one of the tastiest things I've ever eaten. Or did you come to a curry house looking for popadoms and onions!? You culinery scum.

I am a regular at all their branches, and they seem to have got the formula right. I was so shocked when I read this review I felt obliged to rectify your slanderous comments. Doesn't matter to be honest, everyone who has been there know where the best curry in London is...

And by the way, the brown rice is called Pilao, philistine. It's made with onions, funnily enough and And it's bloomin' excellent.

Very disappointing. I've walked past often, and always thought it looks like it would be a good restaurant, but I was very far from the truth.

In summary - bad bad food.

Very greasy rice, that was a strange brown colour.
No flavour to the dish I ordered, despite asking for it be be made spicy.
Poor house wines.
The manager/waitress wouldn't leave us along, asking every 5 minutes if everything was OK - which it clearly wasnt.

They are clearly trying to entice people in, with their recent refurb, and several special offers in the local press and cinema, but ith food this bad, they'd struggle to give it away.

And the worst thing - no chopped onion with the bland poppadums!

Sorry don't know what all the fuss is about. We didn't get past the poppodums and dips before we hatched our plan to escape. The owner tried to intercept our early departure, we were too embarrassed to tell her the dips were tasteless and poppodums tasted of old oil. Shame, she was a lovely lady, however no way are we going back in there again.

Lots of reviews on this website so I felt I had to go and try Chilli Chutney.I would agree with those that have had an excellent experience. Some restaurants you go to leave you feeling unfulfilled. Not here! The food is excellent, friendly waiters and good surroundings. A definite plus for Streatham.

I went with a group of friends recently to Chilli Chutney and LOVED the food. It reminded me of Lahore where we are used to exquisite flavours of dishes which are freshly cooked with original tastes. Chicken, lamb, Tandoori sizzlers and naan breads are very tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and planning to go back again very soon. Will definitely recommend it.

I really do not know who writes the reviews on here but I suspect they are 'regulars'The menu is over priced, the staff paid more attention to huge catering orders than customers. We waited 25 minutes for our starters and they finally arrived - cold?! We were charged for drinks that we did not order and when we challenged the bill there was no apology or even eye contact. The waiters just spoke loudly in their own language laughed and then changed the amount. I will not be returning.

Ok well where do I start! Have read alot of peoples opinions on here and it's only fair to say that everyone is entitled to their own. My comments are not geared around those fanatical people who either know the owners in some way or the other but more on reality - the food was not what I expected, I was hoping to go in and experience an amazing dining time and leave with a desire to come back, however neither happened. It's no more then your average local that you would go down to have some curry. Like I said I will be a realist and yes there are some positive notes. The layout and theme was quite relaxing even though it was busy I felt relaxed, it's just a shame that the food did not match its standards. I would go there now and again in a few months time but not a place that I will be keen to share the experience with others. In relation to what Mr. Rasheedi's comments I agree and think the expectations for a tip are far more then the expectations to deliver a good service.

I go to this restaurant on average every 6 weeks, I have always found the staff to be welcoming, helpful and attentive but not intrusive. I find the food to be very tasty and the staff will explain things your unfamiliar with. I am very suprised at the couple of negative reviews on this page, however I take exception to the comments that insinuate the staff are disrespectful to women as Myself and my friend are ladies and have always been treated respectfully- possibly because we treat people how we wish to be treated. Anyway the important thing is the food is great- especially the desserts Gajar Halwa made with carrots and condensed milk and severed hot not to be missed, especially if you like desserts, also Gulab Jamun which I was sceptical about as I've had it in other restaurants and not enjoyed it, at Chilli Chutney the dumplings are nice and light. The ice creams are wicked infact all the desserts a morish and should be tried - so leave space! To leave space you will definitely no want to begin with the Sizzling Tandoori -a real joy for meat eaters!, there is just so much of it -2 of us always end up bringing half of it home for later!. I like the decor, gone are the days of the flock wallpaper, I've been coming here since it opened and things naturally evolve, all I can say in my experience it goes from strength to strength. You get a broad range of cliental that reflects the local area, so I suggest if you have a problem with that you eat somewhere that caters for your prejudice.
